One Room Challenge Week Four – Wallpapering is a Family Affair

Halfway point friends and I’m feeling good. This time it’s all about steady progress and knocking out one big project a week….and so far I’m on track. I’m actually thinking that if I can keep this pace I’ll be able to give the closet in this room a tiny upgrade and really maximize the organization before the holidays. But I digress….let’s talk Week Four.

Week 1 / Week 2 / Week 3 / Week 4 / Week 5 / Week 6 / Week 7 / Week 8

Finally it;s time to see this wallpaper in action! I’ve added wallpaper to almost every one of my last ORCs and I have no plan to stop anytime soon. This time I wanted a pattern that made this room feel like it was more connected to the rest of the upstairs, but wasn’t so grown up it felt out of place in a kids gameroom. Enter this full on X-Files fantasy…….

I knew as soon as I came across this print on Spoonflower that this was the perfect wallpaper for this project….but it took me longer to figure out what color and size would work best. The boys were really pushing for the blue version with the white background, but when I was looking at the samples on the wall I really loved the way that the green trees played off of the green from the stairway and that tan background felt so much warmer and inviting than the white…..so I used my veto card and went with my gut.

Because I wanted to hang the paper from floor to ceiling I brought in a second set of hands (aka my dad) to help out. While he hung, I got the next piece cut and prepped so we were able to put together a really smooth assembly line and get the room finished in two sessions.

Dash also decided that he needed to be a part of the process and stayed with us the whole time…periodically trying to drink from the tray of wallpaper water and taking over our towels.

This wallpaper was the biggest splurge for this room by far but I feel like it was well worth it because it completely transformed the look of the entire space and really nailed the 80’s bedroom meets grandpas basement vibe I’m aiming for.

I also was ok dropping some money on this part of the room because the next step is going to be all about re-puporsing and up-cycling as much of the existing furniture as I can to create an entirely new desk area…but that’s for next week. For now check out my Week Four video below to see my dad in action and more shots of my questionable dog.
