March 2025 Round Up
This is the time last year that I let my monthly blog posts lapse…and there’s a big reason why. So instead of letting that happen again let’s write about it. The main reason I took a step back from social media last year is because I took on a position on the exec board of my son’s elementary school PTO (which I realize more than any other statement I’ve written firmly cements my identity as a suburban mom). And it’s been a super welcome and fulfilling distraction especially when so much feels wrong and out of my control – albeit a very time consuming one because after 43 years I think I’ve finally accepted the fact that I am just not the kind of person who comfortably only dips a toe into things. I’ve also finally accepted the fact that I’m the kind of person that needs to feel like they’ve made a difference and made something – anything! – better than how they found it. And after spending the last two years in a position where I could put all of my niche skills and Type A personality to use and watch them help pay for field trips, or help teachers get supplies for their classroom, or throw a giant Bingo game for 400 people I think I did. For the first time I think ever I thought to myself just the other day that if I do nothing else in my life after this I can look back and remember that I did that….and that’s not nothing. So for anyone else out there with that same need I cannot stress enough – just GET INVOLVED! Find an opening, attend the meeting, raise your hand. If you think that there’s enough people helping trust me There’s Not.

On the more frivolous side of things – this month I really want to share a few favorites that got me through this month. 1 – These Korean Style Corn dogs from Costco (which are giant mozzarella sticks covered in potato). My son and I tried them for the first time last year and they are my new favorite comfort food! 2 – New episodes of School Spirits which is an amazing High School ghost mystery show that started last year got even better in season 2. And 3 – This might be the nerdiest thing I ever share on this blog but if anyone has ever wished for a better version of Google Forms then you have to try JotForm. We started using it last year to collect and track registrations and payments for our PTO and I think I’ve told someone how much I love it at least once a month since then.

This month went by in such a blur that I almost forgot that I built an entire office for a client at some point. This was my first time actually hacking Billy Bookcases from IKEA and now I really want to fast forward to our eventual basement remodel so I can build a whole wall of them. These ceilings are nine feet so I was extremely happy to learn that they sell extensions for the top of the bookcases so I could take them all the way to the ceiling…which makes even the smallest space look twice as big.

- Deep Cleaned the Boys bedsheets and towels – I use a combo of Laundry Detergent + Liquid Borax and Arm & Hammer Washing Soda
- Cleaned the Loft Couch Slip Covers
- Re-attached the stair-runner
- Fixed the Loft Floor by the Laundry Room door

The tastiest things I cooked up in the kitchen this month:

- Cultish by Amanda Montell (Favorite Non-Fiction)
- Juniper & Thorn by Ava Reid
- The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams
- The Midnight Library by Matt Haig (Favorite Fiction)
